I'm still here with my horses

No, I didn't forget I have a blog, I was just waiting for something to blog about. I still don't have anything to say particularly, but I'll think of something as I go along.

I have been doing more riding than drawing lately--almost. Last weekend I went on a 22km ride. I've been trying to get him fit for a three day ride across New Zealand in June. Probably the worst time to do it--the middle of winter!

Tigger knows exactly which direction is home!

We rode past the big rock, Tara Tara.

I was going to go for another long ride today, to my sisters place about 25km (15.5 miles) away but when I went to see him yesterday he was lame with a sprained fetlock joint, so its a long rest for him. Hopefully he will be better for out long trek.

But all this shouldn't be related here because this is my art blog. Here is a drawing from about a year ago to compensate. It is of my neighbors little welsh pony done in graphite. One of my better drawings, it sold pretty quick when I put it in the shop.

Lots of photos, be warned!

To begin with, let me introduce you to this pretty buckskin, Simba.
My friend and I have been given him as a project horse only a week after we sold Calypso, that big dark horse you have often seen in photos here.

He's finally settling in after having been badly picked on by the other horses.

My Tigger is becoming tollerant of him!

He  is nice to ride and very soft and responsive

But also very speedy, he just wants to get places fast!

He is skinny too, and needs to be fattened up before I do heaps of work with him. So he will be nice when we sell him which we have to to for I can't afford to keep him.

Unfortunately my camera lens was dirty and I didn't notice, hence the blury streaks, sorry!

Ex reacehorse galloping down to join the fun.

The donkeys...

A good roll, ahaaa..........

It was the bluest of blue days, not a cloud.
This was yesterday by the way

Isn't it a beautiful place I keep my horse and ride, I'm so blessed

Rearing Horses

A month or so ago we took Tigger and Calypso to the beach and had lots of fun swimming with the horses. Then Tigger and I showed off and did some rearing. I have just started teaching him and realize now how dangerous it is to teach a horse to rear. They must be well trained in the basics and you must be able to really trust your horse before you teach rearing. When he is confused with something I ask him now he sometimes wants to rear thinking that's what I want. But he's just about got it now, next step is getting him to rear up higher!

Good boy! I love my Tigger!
