Archio D'Conte...

When asked for a name for one of my drawings my younger brother promptly said Archio D'Conte out of the top of his head. So that is what this pastel drawing is called. He attempted to charge me for his intellectual property but I wasn't to be taken in. He gets the credit and great renown of being an inventor of interesting names! I wonder if he can come up with names for the rest of my pictures. Names sometimes come naturally to a picture I'm working on and at other times it seems like one of the greatest challenges of being an artist to find a name that fits.

I've been working on updating my website all day today which is making me feel pretty washed out, I still have to finish making fliers, picture labels and signs for next weekend. But first I've got to feed the hungry sailors who have just arrived home out of the wind and rain...

New Horse Drawing in Charcoal

In case you are wondering I really am alive and kicking down here. In fact I'm beginning to kick harder than usual. I suddenly realized it is less than twelve weeks until the spring A&P Show at which I plan to have an art stall so I had better get cracking and make a heap more serious pictures.

So I have been doing that, and have made a very full schedule for myself with a goal for the amount of art I wish to produce each week. I have begun well this week and this is what I worked on yesterday.

The proportions aren't the best I know, but I was trying out a new technique for me with charcoal. It is very fun as I discovered so I plan to create a whole series of charcoal horses. I have done two more today, however I don't know how I can take photos of them for awhile as all the camera batteries have been taken by Dad and my brother for their model boats! I stole my other brothers camera for this one, and I should be able to borrow it again. I might even be able to make some drawing videos with it.

Website Update

I have been working all morning on my website Equine Fine Art. Doing all those little updating jobs that seem so simple but are so time consuming.

I think one day soon I will have to do something about the fact that Equine Fine Art is mainly for my horse pictures and these days I am doing as much 'other' as I am horses!

Though I have just finished another horse yesterday, I will take a photo of it as soon as the camera is charged!
I worked from this photo of Simba a horse I am training. My little brother, Nathaniel, took the photo. In my painting I have used only the horses head.

Portrait of Blondie

I'm in Napier, the Art Deco city of the country, a long holiday over Christmas and New Years because my little brother is competing in the sailing worlds down here.

I brought down some work to finish, here is a commissioned portrait of Blondie which I have just finished.

Exhibition!

I have been working on a pastel painting which is going in an exhibition on Thursday which lasts for two weeks! The art group which I have been going to for the last month in organizing it, and they encouraged me to enter one of my horses. The theme is book week, create a painting illustration the title of a book or a passage of writing from the book. It's a theme I would love to explore more given time, but I only had two weeks to think about it so I've done a horse which is easy for me. My book is My Friend Flicka by Mary O'Hara.
